Santana (from Portuguese Santa Ana meaning Saint Anne) is a town located in the northern part of the Madeira Islands. It is located NE of Funchal, NW of the Savage Islands and W of Machico. It is linked with a road linking to Machico, the western part of the island and Funchal. The main source of industry are agriculture and fishing while a small number of businesses are in the downtown area. Santana is famous for its traditional homes which the bungalow rooftops that are made out of straws extends down to the ground making it like a triangular house. It is mainly a rural house and farmers live in these homes in the older times. The house has a beautiful light white walls with red doors and a window and blue edges. Most of these houses are a tourist attraction. The straw roofs are renovated every four to five years.

The largest parish in aera is Faial, the leastly populated parish is Ilha. The two parishes including Santana and Arco de So Jorge are the highest.
