³ Pokmon Red/Blue/Yellow | Sandshrew (Sand (サンド Sando) in the original Japanese) is a fairly common Ground-type Pokmon in the video game Pokmon. As its name implies, it likes sandy areas such as underground tunnels and deserts. It likes to curl itself up into a little ball and roll like a hedgehog. Name origin The name Sandshrew originates from the words sand (where it prefers to live) and the rodent, shrew. Information Sandshrew burrows deep underground in arid locations far from water. It only emerges to hunt for food. Its body is dry. When it gets cold at night, its hide is said to become coated with a fine dew. If it fell from a great height, this Pokmon could save itself by rolling into a ball and bouncing. It prefers dry, sandy places because it uses the sand to protect itself when threatened. At night, it burrows into the desert sand to sleep. Anime Appearances Despite its commonness, Sandshrew doesn't appear very often in the anime. Only a few trainers that have crossed Ash's way have it.
