Sands Of Iwo Jima

Sands of Iwo Jima is a 1949 war film which tells the story of the Marine landing on Iwo Jima during World War II. It stars John Wayne, John Agar, Adele Mara and Forrest Tucker. Rene Gagnon, who was one of the six marines who raised the flag over Mount Suribachi, appears briefly in the film. The movie was written by Harry Brown and James Edward Grant. It was directed by Allan Dwan. It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (John Wayne), Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Recording and Best Writing, Motion Picture Story.
