Sandra ZaiterSandra Zaiter (born 1950 in San Juan, Puerto Rico) was a host of children's T.V. shows and singer of children's songs. Zaiter was already a known children's entertainment figure, she hosted "Rikalandia". She was also a renowned diver and swimmer who suffered a life threatening accident in the 1970s,when she attempted a dive in a San Juan beach. She hit her head with against some rocks. She survived the accident, but has been paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair ever since then. During the later part of the 1970s, Zaiter's fame rose, as she went on to record many well selling children's albums and to have a daily television show on Canal 7. This show went on to last until that channel closed its doors temporarily. Zaiter later moved to Telemundo Puerto Rico, where she hosted the children's show "Telecomico" along with co-hosts Dagmar and Loubrier. In 1990, she started televising "Burbujita y Bolillo" and continues to do so as of 2005. She currently has a program on TUTV called "Contra viento y Marea" (Against Wind and Surf). It is a program whose purpose is to give orientation to the handicaped. She does public appearances, especially in the yearly presentation of the Sandra Zietar Award to those who have distinguished themselves helping the handicaped. Sandra is the speaker for the MDA in Puerto Rico and an important propulsor of the association,s telethon there. Zaiter is viewed by many Puerto Ricans as a hero.
