Sandip PatankarSandip Patankar (born April 30, 1981) is Mumbai's most prolific harmonica player. He plays a variety of genres of Hindi, English, Marathi and Goan music, and is an authority on blues and classic rock. Patankar took to music at the age of 5 when he spotted a Hohner Blue's Harp G major harmonica at the music store at Harrods in London. After a 15 minute show of stubborn behaviour, his father purchased Patankar the harmonica for Pound38. Within three hours, Patankar has learned his first tune, "Mary Had a Little Lamb." By age 6, Patankar was performing throughout Mumbai with Little Wonders (a music group organised by Kalyanji Anandji). From there, we went on learn to play keyboards and to perform Hindustani classical music, filmi songs and western music. While studying at the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition in Mumbai, Patankar formed the band Feel with Rajiv Sapru. Patankar and Sapru both act as vocalists, while Sapru plays guitar and Patankar plays harmonica. The duo gained further renown after a June 12, 2002 interview with Bombay Times journalist Dilnaz Boga. As of 2004, Feel has had more than 500 English, Hindi, Marathi and instrumental performances. Patankar has also played with the likes of Gary Lawyer and had a once-in-a-lifetime jam session with Slash and Sir Elton John at the Dubai Music School where Sapru works as a part time guitar instructor.
