Sandhills Community CollegeSandhills Community College is a community college located in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Sandhills was chartered in 1963, and officially opened October 1, 1965 as the first community college in North Carolina offering a four-year transfer degree. Enrollment Over 10,000 students enroll in Sandhills' continuing education program annually, while college credit enrollment accounts for almost 4,000 students a year. The fall 2003 semester saw a 12% increase in student body with respect to fall of 2002. Campus Sandhills Community College moved to its present location from Southern Pines in March, 1966. Thanks to a generous donation by Mary Luman Meyer, the campus consists of 240 acres and is comprised of 8 instructional buildings, a student center, visitors center for the Sandhills gardens, maintenance facility, auditorium, and Boyd Library, which contains more than 72,000 volumes and 700 periodical subscriptions. In addition to the main campus, campuses located in Westmoore and Hoke County, North Carolina provide continuing education and basic job skills courses to the unemployed and underemployed. In the fall of 2003, construction began on the two-story, 45,027 sq.ft. Dempsey Student Center.
