San Pablo Guelatao

San Pablo Guelatao is a town in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, about 55 km from the city of Oaxaca, Oaxaca. It is the birth place of Mexico's most famous leader, President Benito Jurez. About 1810 (in Jurez's youth) it had a population of less than 100 people. In 2001 San Pablo Guelatao had an estimated population of about 1,200 people. San Pablo Guelato is in the Sierra Madre Mountains. The majority of the population are Zapotec Native Americans.
