Saline, MichiganSaline is a city in Washtenaw County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,034. The city is located at the northeast corner of Saline Township. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.1 km² (4.7 mi²). 12.0 km² (4.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.64% water. Saline is twinned with Brecon, Wales. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 8,034 people, 3,148 households, and 2,134 families residing in the city. The population density is 670.0/km² (1,736.3/mi²). There are 3,213 housing units at an average density of 267.9/km² (694.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.69% White, 0.56% African American, 0.32% Native American, 1.94% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 1.11% from two or more races. 1.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 3,148 households out of which 38.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% are married couples living together, 10.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% are non-families. 27.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 3.09. In the city the population is spread out with 28.6% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 32.6% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 86.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.2 males. The median income for a household in the city is $59,382, and the median income for a family is $73,162. Males have a median income of $51,391 versus $32,254 for females. The per capita income for the city is $26,208. 4.0% of the population and 3.0% of families are below the poverty line.
