Salamaua

Salamaua is a small town situated on the northeastern coastline of Papua New Guinea. The settlement is built on a minor peninsula with mountains on the inland side and a harbor facing the western side of the Huon Gulf. The city was captured by the Japanese in 1942 during World War II and later retaken by United States forces lead by General Douglas MacArthur on September 15, 1943.
