The
Saint Lucia giant rice-rat
(
Megalomys luciae
) is an
extinct
rodent
that lived on the
island
of
Saint Lucia
in the
Caribbean
. It was the size of a small
cat
and had a darker belly than the
Martinique giant rice-rat
and had slender claws. It probably became extinct in the latter half of the nineteenth century, with the last record dating from
1881
. There is a specimen in the
Natural History Museum
,
London
.
