Sailor Toadstool

Sailor Toadstool is the name of a Sailor Moon and Super Mario Bros. crossover, and the main character thereof. It was made for American release, and began airing on Cartoon Network's Toonami lineup on September 3, 2004. The show is supposedly non-canonical in both the Sailor Moon and Mario universes, though it could conceivably be canonical in the former, because it's so far removed from the main storyline. The story begins with Princess Peach (Princess Toadstool) of the Mushroom Kingdom discovering that she, like all princesses, is a sailor soldier, destined to protect the Mushroom Kingdom from the forces of evil. Ignoring warnings from Mario and Luigi, she sets out on a quest to find such a force of evil, ostensibly to prove that she is no longer merely a "damsel in distress." In doing so Peach encounters a plot by Bowser and his henchhag Kammy Koopa to capture the Phantom Silver Star Spirit and use its power to take over the Mushroom Kingdom. With the help of her talking Toad friend, she learns to user her sailor soldier powers and the magical Star Rod to defeat such minor enemies as Goombas and Koopas, and eventually Bowser himself. The series ended on December 24, 2004 in a breathtaking conclusion where Peach defeats Bowser once and for all, but decides that adventuring is not for her and returns to her life as a princess, though not before finally marrying Mario. A manga series drawn and written by Naoko Takeuchi is being translated and released by TokyoPop in 2005.
