Sado, Niigata

Sado (佐渡市, -shi) is a city located on Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. It has an area of 854.97 km² and a population of 70,015 (as of April 1, 2004)

History

The city was established in 2004 in a merger of Ryotsu, Aikawa, Sawata, Kanai, Niibo, Hatano, Mano, Ogi, Hamochi, and Akadomari.
