Saber Class StarshipIn the Star Trek fictional universe, the Saber class is a variety of starship produced and used by Starfleet. It was likely first put into mass production like a destroyer escort during the 2350s for combat in the Cardassian-Federation conflict. The basic form of the ship is that of an elliptic saucer-shaped hull, with the width of it being fore to aft and its length the ship's width abeam. From the tips of the ellipse, two nacelles, each housing a warp engine run aft; between them, from the center of the primary hull, an extension of the hull, slightly longer than the nacelles, runs aftward, housing the engineering section, and in an underslung construction on its ventral side, the navigational deflector. The ship's phaser strips and lifeboats occupy the dorsal saucer. Two impulse engines are located between the engineering hull and the engines, one on each side of the ship. The Bussard ramscoops are found on the front edge of the saucer, one near each end of it. An indentation at the center of the front of the saucer may be a shuttlebay.
