Rykodisc

Rykodisc was one of the first CD-only record companies in the late 1980s. They were the company that published Frank Zappa's music on CD. Their name means "sound from a flash of light" in Japanese. The founders were Arthur Mann, Rob Simonds, Doug Lexa and Don Rose. Over the years they have acquired Hannibal Records, Tradition Records, Grammavision Records and Restless Records. Their catalogue now exceeds 1,200 titles. In 1999, Chris Blackwell left Island Records and acquired Rykodisc for a reported $35 million.
