Ruth Montgomery

Ruth Montgomery is a self-described Christian psychic in the tradition of Jeane Dixon and Edgar Cayce. She was a protege of Arthur Ford, who taught her to channel spirits who used automatic writing to convey their messages. At first she perceived her mission on earth as being to educate the public on the reality of life after death, quite reasonable for Spiritualists. However, she also studied reincarnation and came to believe that mental and physical illnesses often have their origins in past lives. With other like-minded and well-intentioned mystics, she founded the Association for Past Life Research and Therapy. Her many books, written with the help of her spirit guides, popularised Spiritualist notions in public consciousness in the 80s and 90s, and paved the way for what we now know as the New Age religion.
