Rushville, New York

Rushville is a village located in Ontario County, New York and in Yates County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 621. Part of the Village of Rushville is within the Town of Middlesex in Yates County and part is in the Town of Gorham in Ontario County.

Geography

Rushville is located at 42°45'40" North, 77°13'34" West (42.761136, -77.226177). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.7 km² (0.6 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 621 people, 224 households, and 155 families residing in the village. The population density is 374.6/km² (973.6/mi²). There are 236 housing units at an average density of 142.4/km² (370.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.97% White, 1.61% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 1.13% from two or more races. 1.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 224 households out of which 38.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.7% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.4% are non-families. 24.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.14. In the village the population is spread out with 28.2% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 87.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.6 males. The median income for a household in the village is $35,625, and the median income for a family is $43,047. Males have a median income of $32,857 versus $22,708 for females. The per capita income for the village is $16,848. 9.6% of the population and 8.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.1% of those under the age of 18 and 6.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
