royal deeside railway

The Royal Deeside Railway was formed by a Preservation Society with the intention of reclaiming part of the Great North of Scotland Railway branch from Aberdeen to Ballater. Work is underway to reinstate the railway between Banchory and Milton of Crathes, although delays in satisfying planning requirements and receiving approval from the local council have held the project up. These are expected to be resolved in early 2005 and it is hoped the railway will open to passengers in phases over the next 2-3 years.
