Royal City, Washington

Royal City is a city located in Grant County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,823.

History

Royal City was officially incorporated on February 14, 1962.

Geography

  City is located at 46°54'7" North, 119°37'38" West (46.901899, -119.627220). 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²). 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,823 people, 444 households, and 380 families residing in the city. The population density is 558.6/km² (1,445.6/mi²). There are 504 housing units at an average density of 154.4/km² (399.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 66.32% White, 0.38% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 29.90% from other races, and 2.47% from two or more races. 78.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 444 households out of which 64.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% are married couples living together, 8.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 14.4% are non-families. 10.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.10 and the average family size is 4.33. In the city the population is spread out with 40.3% under the age of 18, 12.4% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 11.0% from 45 to 64, and 4.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 24 years. For every 100 females there are 126.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 132.0 males. The median income for a household in the city is $28,529, and the median income for a family is $29,821. Males have a median income of $19,643 versus $22,917 for females. The per capita income for the city is $9,502. 26.7% of the population and 24.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 35.0% of those under the age of 18 and 7.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
