Rothesay, New Brunswick

Rothesay is a Canadian town located in Kings County, New Brunswick. A suburb of Saint John, its 2001 population was 11,505. It is named after Rothesay, Scotland. Located along the lower Kennebecasis River valley, Rothesay borders the city of Saint John to the southwest, and the neighbouring town of Quispamsis to the northeast. In response to a sprawl problem (and provincial government cuts in municipal grants), several municipalities in the lower Kennebecasis River valley were amalgamated on January 1, 1998 by the provincial government. The variable pitch propeller was invented in Rothesay by Canadian aviation pioneer Wallace R Turnbull. His interest in engineering began toward the end of the nineteenth century and his invention of the variable pitch propeller in 1927 revolutionized aircraft design.
