Roseland is a borough located in Essex County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 5,298.

Geography

Roseland is located at 40°49'12" North, 74°18'24" West (40.819899, -74.306701). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 9.4 km² (3.6 mi²). 9.4 km² (3.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 5,298 people, 2,142 households, and 1,525 families residing in the borough. The population density is 565.1/km² (1,463.6/mi²). There are 2,187 housing units at an average density of 233.3/km² (604.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 93.43% White, 0.72% African American, 0.04% Native American, 4.72% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. 2.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,142 households out of which 26.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.8% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.8% are non-families. 25.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 2.99. In the borough the population is spread out with 20.6% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 85.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.6 males. The median income for a household in the borough is $82,499, and the median income for a family is $93,957. Males have a median income of $61,049 versus $41,688 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $41,415. 1.7% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 2.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
