Root-takahira Agreement

The Root-Takahira Agreement of 1908 was a contract between the US and Japan where both countries acknowledged Asias status, their international policies and territorial pocessions in the Pacific as well as the John Hay's Open Door trade policy in China. The agreement was made after Roosevelt's Russo-Japanese War settlment when Roosevelt didn't want his conciliatroy moves to be interpreted as weakness. Japanese believed the agreement also showed their dominance in Korea and southern Manchuria. Out of Many. Faragher, John M. Prentice Hall: New Jersey. 2003
