Elaine "Romath" Matthews is the self-styled heroine of the Usenet newsgroup alt.romath. She asked her ISP to create this newsgroup (with "romath" meaning "Registered Owner Matthews") so that she could investigate spam and pornography. Matthews' strongly expressed views on alternative lifestyles and behaviors won her a group of detractors calling themselves the Romathians (or KOTAGOR, "Knights of the Ancient Garter of Romath"), who for a time invaded and overwhelmed the newsgroup.
