Roland Dorgeles

Roland Dorgels (born 1885 in Amiens – died 1973), was a French novelist. Born Roland Lecavel (he adopted the pen name Dorgels to commemorate visits to the spa town of Argels), he spent his childhood in Paris. A prolific author, he is most renowned for Wooden crosses ("Les croix de bois"), a moving study of World War One, in which he served, published in 1919 (in English in 1921) for which he won the Prix Femina.
