Roja

Roja (1992) is a Tamil movie directed by Mani Ratnam, one of the leading filmmakers in India. The movie starts off with a top cryptologist Rishi (Arvind Swamy) marrying a village girl, Roja (Madhu Bala) in Southern Tamil Nadu. In the meantime Rishi is assigned a posting at an army communications center in Kashmir. During his tenure, Rishi is captured by terrorists who want the release of their terrorist leader from prison. The movie is set against the backdrop of the longstanding struggle between India and Pakistan over Kashmir. The film has music by A. R. Rahman, who debuted in this movie. Roja has been dubbed in to a number of Indian languages and was recently released for international audiences in light of the growing fear of terrorist attacks the world over.
