Rodman, New YorkRodman is a town located in Jefferson County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,147. The Town of Rodman is at the eastern border of the county. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 109.5 km² (42.3 mi²). 109.4 km² (42.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.02% is water. The town is north of Syracuse, New York and south of Watertown. The eastern town line is the border of Lewis County, New York. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,147 people, 385 households, and 314 families residing in the town. The population density is 10.5/km² (27.2/mi²). There are 455 housing units at an average density of 4.2/km² (10.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.34% White, 0.17% African American, 0.61% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races. 1.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 385 households out of which 46.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.1% are married couples living together, 6.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.2% are non-families. 13.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.98 and the average family size is 3.26. In the town the population is spread out with 30.9% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 110.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 107.0 males. The median income for a household in the town is $36,339, and the median income for a family is $43,750. Males have a median income of $28,750 versus $25,764 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,453. 9.5% of the population and 6.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.6% of those under the age of 18 and 5.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
