Rock Mills is a census-designated place located in Randolph County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the CDP is 676.

Geography

Rock Mills is located at 33°9'37" North, 85°17'26" West (33.160348, -85.290469). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 16.4 km² (6.3 mi²). 16.4 km² (6.3 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 676 people, 282 households, and 192 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 41.2/km² (106.8/mi²). There are 313 housing units at an average density of 19.1/km² (49.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.63% White, 2.22% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 1.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 282 households out of which 29.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.9% are married couples living together, 10.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% are non-families. 27.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.93. In the CDP the population is spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 87.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.2 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $40,714, and the median income for a family is $48,393. Males have a median income of $31,944 versus $20,117 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $13,093. 16.2% of the population and 12.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.4% of those under the age of 18 and 52.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
