Robotech Defense ForceThe fictional military force depicted in Robotech. Because of Robotech's unaltered reuse of footage from The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, distinctive signage reading "Robotech Defense Force" or "RDF" never appears in the show, instead reading "UN Spacy" (the fictional military force depicted in Macross; the term "Spacy" is an extrapolation of the terms 'Army' and Navy' - though some Japanese sources also use the term 'Space Army' and some English-language sources use the term 'Space Navy,' suggesting that the term is a contraction). The branches of the Robotech Armed Forces are the Robotech Defense Force, or RDF, which serves as the United Earth Government's military from 2005 to 2018; its successor service the Robotech Expeditionary Force, which is formed in 2014 and leaves Earth to hunt for the Robotech Masters in 2020; returning during the 2030s and 2040s to battle the Invid; and the Army of the Southern Cross which is formed in 2014 alongside the REF and is tasked to protect the Earth while the REF hunts for the Robotech Masters. The Robotech Defense Force's primary air and light infantry mecha was the VF-1 Valkyrie Veritech fighter for most of its existence, developing the VF-6 Alpha during the last two years of its existence before it became the successor Robotech Expeditionary Force. Its primary ground mecha were the Destroid series: MBR-04-VII Tomahawk, MBR-07-II Spartan, ADR-04-X Defender, HWR-00-II Monster and SDR-04-XII Phalanx. See also: Robotech
