Robert the Strong

count of Tours
. He was nominated by
Charles the Bald

for the Tours and
Angers
regions in

. After a rebellion against
Charles II
in

, he became duke for the region between
Seine
and
Loire
. From this time he was responsible for fighting against
Normans
and
Britons
, and he eventually met his demise in
866
fighting the Normans in the
Battle of Brissarthe
. He was possibly married to Adelaide, daughter of
Louis the Pious
and
Ermengarde
. Robert was the father of
Odo, Count of Paris
and
Robert I of France
, who both became
King of France
. Robert was the great-grandfather of
Hugh Capet
and thus the ancestor of all the
Capetians
.
