Robert Newton (June 1 1905 - March 25 1956) was an English actor. He was born in Shaftesbury, England, and died in Los Angeles, USA. His film career includes several notable villains, among them Bill Sikes in David Lean's 1948 film version of Oliver Twist, Long John Silver in Disney's 1950 film version of Treasure Island -- probably his most famous role -- and Javert in the 1952 Les Misrables.
