Robert Frost Middle School

Robert Frost Middle School is a middle school in Rockville, Maryland. Its namesake is the famous poet Robert Frost. The school was founded in 1976 and is part of the Montgomery County Public Schools system. The majority of the students, after graduating, attend Thomas Sprigg Wootton High School. The current principal is Dr. Joseph N. Jones. Robert Frost Middle School is primarily known for its basketball teams, math team, bands, science bowl team, and academics.

Academics

In academics, Frost is noted for its excellence. It is one of the only schools in the county where most students receive an advanced rating on standardized tests. Most of its students go to Wootton where they, again, help boost academic excellence. Some even go to Montgomery Blair High School, a magnet school, or Richard Montgomery High School, an International Baccalaureate school.

Extracurriculars

The students of Robert Frost Middle School also excel in extracurriculars.

Basketball team

The Frost boys' basketball team had a 28 game winning streak as of their 2004-2005 season until they lost their last game of the season against Herbert Hoover Middle School. The girls' basketball team did not perform as well, losing two games the same season.

Math team

The Frost math team won all four of their meets in the 2004-2005 and the 2003-2004 seasons, as well as winning three meets in the 2003-2004 season. The team has been undefeated for the past ten meets and is fifth in the county overall, as well as the top non-magnet team. Two of the math team's players, Pin-Yi Ko a few years ago and Jacob Hurwitz this year, were good enough to qualify for the national American Regions Mathematics League competition, a high school competition, as middle schoolers.

Bands

The Frost jazz band, concert band, and orchestra compete at a local and national Festivals of Music every year. Recently, on February 19, 2005, the jazz band performed at the Fish Middleton East Coast Jazz Festival, a great honor for musicians across the east coast. The jazz band has at least ten performances each year. There is also an intermediate band, a sixth grade band and orchestra, and a chorus; however, they are not as renowned. The Frost chorus competed at the Festivals of Music for the first time in 2005.

Science bowl

Robert Frost sent a team to the 2005 Virginia/Maryland Regional Middle School Science Bowl on March 5, 2005. The Robert Frost team won the regional competition and advanced to the nationals, which will be held June 23 through June 26, 2005. The team was even publicized in numerous newspaper articles and press releases, including:
