The Rizal Day bombings were a series of bombings that occurred in various places in Metro Manila, Philippines on December 30, 2000 within a span of a few hours killing 22 and injuring about a hundred. December 30 is Rizal Day in the Philippines and a national holiday, commemorating the execution of the country's national hero, Jos Rizal. One of the bombs exploded at an open square less than a hundred meters from the United States Embassy. Various groups, mostly Islamic groups, were implicated as masterminds in the bombings, including the Jemaah Islamiyah, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, and the Moro National Liberation Front.
