River Weaver
The
River Weaver
is a watercourse in
Cheshire
,
England
. It flows approximately south to north across the Cheshire Plain, and today empties into the
Manchester Ship Canal
at
Weston Point Docks
, near
Runcorn
. North of
Winsford
, the river is navigable (having a history, dating back to the
18th century
, of being used to carry
salt
and chemicals). Upstream from Winsford, the river passes through the small market town of
Nantwich
. Perhaps its most notable feature is the
Anderton Boat Lift
, near

, which links the Weaver with the
Trent and Mersey Canal
some 50ft above.
