River Teiglin
In the fiction of
J. R. R. Tolkien
, the
River Teiglin
was a
river
of
Middle-earth
in the
First Age
, a major
tributary
of
Sirion
in
Beleriand
. It rose in the southern reaches of the
Ered Wethrin
, ran generally southeast, receiving the waters of
Glithui
and
Malduin
, then passed along the southern margin of the
Forest of Brethil
, where it ran through a gorge named
Cabed-en-Aras
and then received the
Celebros
. The Teiglin then ran eastward into Sirion at the borders of
Doriath
. The old road from the Pass of Sirion met the river at the
Crossings of Teiglin
, between Malduin and Celebros. The river's banks near Celebros was the scene of the encounter between
Trin Turambar
and the dragon
Glaurung
.
