Riudoms

Riudoms is a town in the region of Baix Camp, Tarragona province, Catalonia autonomous community, Spain, located about five kilometers of the region capital Reus. The people from this town is called Riudomenc/riudomenca.

Economy

Main product is the hazet nut, today decreasing. Also is important the olive tree.

History

Riudoms was a roman rural settlement (some archeologic remains and coins were discovered), that was depopulated when the muslims dominated the region in the VIII century. Conquered by the normand Robert d'Aguil under the orders of the catalan count, the lorship of Riudoms was granted to Arnau de Palomar 24 January 1150. A castle was constructed and a town born at side. From this town is originated the well know architect Antoni Gaud i Cornet designer of the Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona.
