ritwik ghatak

Ritwik Ghatak was one of the avante-garde directors of post-independence Bengali cinema. Having migrated to Calcutta from East Bengal (Bangladesh) during India's partition, Ghatak's most well known films reflected the socio-economic and personal hardships brought about due to Partition. He is perhaps most well known for his film Meghe Dhaka Tara. In his cinema he employed a number of experimental techniques such as the use of wide angle lenses, the searing sounds of whips to reflect pain and boiling rice to reflect anger. His last and perhaps the most autobiographical work was Jukti Takko Aar Gappo, about a dying alcoholic. Some of his films:
