in 1822. He was appointed chemist and curator to the Museum of Economic (afterwards Practical) Geology, then situated in

Annals of Philosophy

Philosophical Magazine
. In 1796 he and his brother
William Phillips

William Allen

Luke Howard
, took part in forming the
