Duffy began his career at Swansea City F.C., making his debut for in December 2001. He soon established himself as an important defender in the Swansea squad, but unfortuantly suffered spondylosis of the lower back, and was out injured for over a year. The Wales youth international soon began to attract the attention of scouts from bigger clubs, and in January 2004 he was sold to Premiership side Portsmouth for 400,000, having made 23 appearances for Swansea. He made his debut in May 2004, coming on as a substitute. At the beginning of the 2004/05 season he was loaned out to Burnley F.C. in order to gain match experience. Duffy, Richard Duffy, Richard
