Rebecca Lobo

Rebecca Rose Lobo (born October 6, 1973 in Hartford, Connecticut) is a college basketball analyst and a former player in the professional Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) from 1997 to 2003. She attended the University of Connecticut and helped lead the Huskies to the 1995 National Championship with an undefeated 35-0 record. In her senior year, she won the 1995 Naismith and College Player of the Year awards. She was assigned to the New York Liberty, during the WNBA's first player allocations on January 22, 1997. She spent five years of her career with New York. Lobo was traded to the Houston Comets from the New York Liberty in exchange for Houston's second-round selection (26th overall) in the 2002 WNBA Draft. She played the 2003 WNBA season with the Connecticut Sun. She retired after the 2003 season. In 1996, Lobo and her mother, RuthAnn Lobo, collobrated on a book entitled The Home Team, which dealt with RuthAnn's battle with breast cancer. Today, Lobo is seen as a color analyst for NBA-TV for primarily WNBA games. She also announces and commentates women's and men's college basketball games as well, primarily for her alma mater, the University of Connecticut. She is married to Sports Illustrated writer Steve Rushin. On December 25, 2004 Rushin and Lobo had their first child, a baby daughter named Siobhan Rose Rushin. A street named "Rebecca Lobo Way" in Southwick, Massachusetts is named after her.
