Ray GuyRay Guy is considered one of the greatest punters in the history of American football. He excelled as a free safety and kicker for the University of Southern Mississippi, and became the first and only punter to be drafted in the first round of the NFL draft. During his 14 year career playing for the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders of the American Football Conference, Ray made 207 straight appearances without missing a game, and was selected to 7 Pro Bowls. In addition to his the outstanding length and hangtime of his punts, he was noted for his ability to put the ball inside the 20 yard line, thus giving the opposing team poor field position. His coach while he was on the Raiders, John Madden claims to have seen Ray punt the ball over 120 yards, from the back of his end zone out the back of the other one. He also says Ray could throw the ball farther than any of his quarterbacks, over 80 yards. Ray punted a ball into a gondola with six seconds of hang time in the Pro Bowl in the Superdome, located in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Ray Guy Award is presented by the Greater Augusta Sports Council to the best collegiate punter in the United States. Kevin Stemke of the University of Wisconsin received the first award in 2000. In 1994 he was the only punter selected for the NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team. External link Ray Guy's Official Site Guy, Ray
