RawhideRawhide is a hide or animal skin that has not been exposed to tanning and thus is much lighter in colour than treated animal hides. The skin from buffalo, deer, elk, or cattle from which most rawhide originates is devoid of all fur, meat, and fat. The resulting material is often only semi-pliable and permeable to light. As such, it is considered suitable for use in objects ranging from drum heads to lampshades. Rawhide was also the title of several motion pictures: - Rawhide (1926 film) a silent film directed by Richard Thorpe
- Rawhide (1938 film) - directed by Ray Taylor and starring Smith Ballew and baseball star, Lou Gehrig
- Rawhide (1951 film) - directed by Henry Hathaway and starring Tyrone Power and Susan Hayward
It was also the name for a Western TV show, best known for its catchy theme song and introducing the world to Clint Eastwood, who starred as cowhand Rowdy Yates. It ran from 1956 to 1966 on the CBS television network. External links
