Ramsey, Isle Of Man

Ramsey (Rhumsaa) is a town in the Isle of Man. It is the third largest town on the island after Douglas and Onchan. Its population is 7,322 according to the 2001 census. It has one of the biggest harbours on the island, and has a prominent derelict pier. It was formerly one of the main points of communication with Scotland. The name derives from the Old Norse for 'garlic island'. The island has since disappeared due to land reclamation, but was formerly in the middle of the town's river.
