Ramanathan V. Guha

Ramanathan V. Guha (Guha) is a computer scientist. He was one of the early co-leads of the Cyc Project where he worked from 1984 through 1994 while the Cyc Project was at Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation. He was responsible for the design and implementation of key parts of the Cyc system, including, CycL, (the language used by Cyc for knowledge representation), the upper ontological layers of the Cyc Knowledge Base and selected portions of the original work on the Cyc Natural Language understanding system. After he left what became Cycorp, Guha worked for Q Techology for a short time, and then worked for Apple Computer. While working at Apple Computer (1995-1997) he developed the Meta Content Framework (MCF) format. After moving to work at Netscape (1997-1999) he created a new version of MCF that used the XML language with Tim Bray and called it Resource Description Framework (RDF). In May 1999 he co-founded epinions where he worked until 2000. From April 2002 until the present, he works on the research staff at IBM's research labs.
