Quylthulg

A quylthulg is a fictional invisible pulsating mound of flesh, found in the roguelike games Moria, Angband and ZAngband. Quylthulgs are unable to move appreciably; if threatened, they may try to escape by teleporting a short distance away. Though incapable of performing physical attacks themselves, they nonetheless present a significant threat to adventurers, as they are able to magically summon other creatures from great distances to attack. Despite their risks, a mid- to high-level Angband character can find amusement in farming quylthulgs for the drops of their summoned monsters. The quylthulg's physiology seems strongly influenced by that of the outlandish extraterrestrial creatures found in the works of H.P. Lovecraft, though no explicit mention of Lovecraft's works is made in Angband. Similar monsters in Angband include the puddings and molds. Quylthulg names are notoriously difficult to spell. The ruler of the quylthulgs is Qlzqqlzuup, the Lord of Flesh (or, in earlier versions, "Qlzqqlzuup, the Emperor Quylthulg").
