Quincy is the name of several places in the United States of America: Quincy, M.E. is also the name of an American television series, starring Jack Klugman as Dr. Quincy. Quincy is as well the name of a pet iguana in the comic strip Fox Trot. John Quincy Adams was the 6th president of the United States. The name Quincy was sometimes used as shorthand to differentiate him from his father. Quincy was used in the 19th century as a euphanism for the flush toilet. This derived from the fact that John Quincy Adams was the first U.S. President to have one installed at the White House. Quincy is also the first name of Arsenal FC football (soccer) player Quincy Owusu-Abeyie. Quincy is used in the place of his surname in many cases, due to its length and difficulty of pronounciation.
