Queening

This article is about queening in chess. For the sexual practice, see queening (sexual practice)
In chess, queening occurs when a pawn reaches the eighth rank and is promoted to a queen. The pawn can be promoted to either a queen, knight, rook, or bishop. The queen is almost invariably chosen, though some rare circumstances may arise where the knight, with its unique properties, is the best choice. Promotion to a rook or bishop normally only occurs in the context of chess problems.
