Qasida
A
qasida
(also spelled
qasidah
) in Arabic "قصيدة", is a form of
poetry
from pre-
Islamic
Arabia
. It typically runs more than 50 lines, and sometimes more than 100. It was later inherited by the
Persians
, where it became a rhymeless poem of more than 100 lines

. Properly, either all the lines
rhyme

, or every second line of the four-line verse rhymes

. The pre-Islamic qasida maintained a single elaborate
meter
throughout the poem, and every line rhymed. These poems are considered some of the most elaborate in the world.
