Punjab University, Chandigarh

Punjab University (officially spelt as Panjab University) is one of the oldest reputed universities in north west India. The university is located at Chandigarh. The Panjab University (previously named University of the Punjab) was founded initially in 1882 at Lahore as the fourth teaching and affiliating University on the Indian subcontinent under British rule (after the Universities of Calcutta, Bombay, and Madras) . After partition and initial dislocation, the University shifted to Chandigarh in 1956. It is not to be confused with Punjabi University, Patiala and the current University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan.
