The PT-91 Twardy (Hard) is a polish main battle tank. It is a very expansive modernization of the T-72M1 including a new dual-axis stabilized Fire Control System (DRAWA), reactive armour (ERAWA) and a more powerful S-1000 engine. Designed at the Research and Development Centre of Mechanical Systems (Ośrodkek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Urządzeń Mechanicznych) in Gliwice, it is produced by Bumar, Łabędy. It entered service in 1995. In March 2002 the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir bin Mohamad, declared that his country will buy modernised PT-91 Twardy tanks. The contract may be worth approximately 250-300 million US dollars depending on the equipment Malaysia will buy together with the tanks.
