Prolative Case

The prolative case is a declension of a noun or pronoun that has the basic meaning of "by way of". The prolative is alive and well in Estonian but in the Finnish language is only found in a few "fossilized" forms. The most commonly used Finnish examples are "postitse" ("by post"), "puhelimitse" ("by phone"), and "meritse" ("by sea").
