Project On Government Oversight

The Project on Government Oversight describes itself as "a politically-independent, nonprofit watchdog that strives to promote a government that is accountable to the citizenry."http://www.pogo.org/p/x/aboutus.html The group, also known by the acronym POGO, was founded in 1981 under the name Project on Military Procurement. The group originally gained prominence by alleging abuses in military procurement during the Reagan administration such as the "$7,600 coffee maker" and the "$436 hammer". These allegations received widespread media attention, and resulted in Congressional hearings. Since that time, the group has continued its activities with an emphasis on abuses by federal contractors, but also expanding into areas such as whistleblower protections, election fraud, and environmental abuses.
